Should you find:

(Thanks to friends Dennis and Marilyn for reminding me!)

Should you find yourself stuck in traffic; Don't despair. There are people in this world for whom driving is an unheard of privilege.

Should you have a bad day at work; Think of the man who has been out of work for years.

Should you despair over a relationship gone bad; Think of the person who has never known what it's like to love and be loved in return.

Should you grieve the passing of another weekend; Think of the woman in dire straits, working twelve hours a day, seven days a week to feed her children.

Should your car break down, leaving you miles away from assistance; Think of the paraplegic who would love the opportunity to take that walk.

Should you notice a new gray hair in the mirror; Think of the cancer patient in chemo who wishes she had hair to examine.

Should you find yourself at a loss and pondering what is life all about, asking what is my purpose? Be thankful. There are those who didn't live long enough to get the opportunity.

Should you find yourself the victim of other people's bitterness, ignorance, smallness or insecurities; Remember, things could be worse. You could be one of them.

Should you decide to send this to a friend - Thank you, you may have touched their life in ways you will never know!

Have you ever been this tired?

Great Doctor

This has been around for a while, but I think it is still funny, so I'm posting it for those who may not have seen it.

His practice has no room for new patients! Now, he's a medical wizard!

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Heart only good for so many beats, and that it... Don't waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speed up heart not make live longer; that like say you can extend life of car by driving faster. Want live longer? Take nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does cow eat? Hay and corn. What are these? Vegetables. So, steak nothing more than efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef also good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And pork chop can give 100% recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine. That means they take water out of fruity bit; get even more of goodness that way. Beer also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: If you have body and you have fat, ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Cannot think of single one, sorry. My philosophy: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods fried in vegetable oil. How getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger. You should only do sit-ups if want bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: You crazy? HELLO ... Cocoa beans! Vegetable!!! Cocoa beans best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming good for figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets. AND.....For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health.

It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies:

1. The Japanese eat very little fat
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4 The Italians drink a lot of red wine
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION.......Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Idiot Sightings

IDIOT SIGHTING: We had to have the garage door repaired. The Sears repairman told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a "large" enough motor on the opener. I thought for a minute and said that we had the largest one Sears made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower. He shook his head and said, "Lady, you need a 1/4 horsepower." I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4. He said, "NO, it's not." Four is larger than two.." We haven't used Sears repair since.

IDIOT SIGHTING: My daughter and I went through the McDonald's take-out window, and I gave the clerk a $5 bill. Our total was $4.25, so I also handed her a quarter. She said, "You gave me too much money." I said, "Yes, I know, but this way you can just give me a dollar bill back." She sighed and went to get the manager who asked me to repeat my request. I did so, and he handed me back the quarter, and said, "We're sorry, but we cannot do that kind of thing." The clerk then proceeded to give me back $1 and 75 cents in change. Do not confuse the clerks at McD's.

IDIOT SIGHTING: I live in a semi-rural area. We recently had a new neighbor call the local township administrative office to request the removal of the DEER CROSSING sign on our road. The reason: "Too many deer are being hit by cars out here! I don't think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore."From Kingman , KS

IDIOT SIGHTING IN FOOD SERVICE:My daughter went to a local Taco Bell and ordered a taco. She asked the person behind the counter for "minimal lettuce." He said he was sorry, but they only had iceburg lettuce.
From Kansas City

IDIOT SIGHTING:I was at the airport, checki ng in at the gate when an airport employee asked, "Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?" To which I replied, "If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?" He smiled knowingly and nodded, "That's why we ask."Happened in Birmingham , AL

IDIOT SIGHTING: The stoplight on the corner buzzes when it's safe to cross the street. I was crossing with an intellectually challenged coworker of mine. She asked if I knew what the buzzer was for. I explained that it signals blind people when the light is red. Appalled, she responded, "What on earth are blind people doing driving?!"She was a probation officer in Wichita , KS

IDIOT SIGHTING: At a good-bye luncheon for an old and dear coworker (She was leaving the company due to "downsizing") our manager commented cheerfully, "This is fun. We should do this more often." Not another word was spoken. We all just looked at each other with that deer-in-the-headlights stare. This was a lunch at Texas Instruments.

IDIOT SIGHTING:I work with an individual who plugged her power strip back into itself, and for the sake of her life couldn't understand why her system would not turn on.A deputy with the Dallas County Sheriff's office, no less.

IDIOT SIGHTING:When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver's side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. "Hey," I announced to the technician, "it's open!" His reply, "I know. I already got that side." This was at the Ford dealership in Canton , MS

STAY ALERT!They walk among us... they REPRODUCE .and scariest of all, they VOTE

Praise You In This Storm by Casting Crowns

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i5MzJ9nLjo

I was sure by now
God you would have reached down
And wiped our tears away,
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say “Amen”, and it’s still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as You mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I’ll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I’ve cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can’t find You

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth

Dust if You MUST! (Proverb I live by! LOL)

Remember...a layer of dust protects the Wood beneath it.

'A house becomes a home when you can write 'I love you' on the furniture.'

I used to spend at least 8 hours every weekend making sure things were just perfect - 'in case someone came over' Finally I realized one day that no-one came over; they were all out living life and having fun! NOW, when people visit, I don't have to explain the 'condition'of my home . They are more interested in hearing about the things I've been doing while I was away living life and having fun.

If you haven't figured this out yet, please heed this advice. Life is short. Enjoy it! Dust if you must .......but wouldn't it be better to paint a picture or write a letter, bake cookies or a cake and lick the spoon or plant a seed, ponder the difference between want and need?!

Dust if you must, but there's not much time . . . . with rivers to swim and mountains to climb, music to hear and books to read, friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there with the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair, a flutter of snow, a shower of rain. This day will not come around, again.

And when you go - and go you must - you, yourself will make more dust! It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Reminder to me!

Heavy Burdens are God's Specialty!

Mothers!

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your mom?
1. My Mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did Mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1 His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms & dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

Hilarious Warning Labels! LIKE DUH!

On a 12-inch CD rack: "Do not use as a ladder."

On a carpenter's drill" "Not intended for use as a dental drill."

On a cocktail napkin with a mini map of Hilton Head, South Carolina: "Not to be used for navigation."

On an insect spray: "This product not tested on animals."

Inside a six-inch plastic bag: "Do not climb inside this bad and zip it up. Doing so will cause injury or death."

ON A SWEDISH CHAINSAW: - Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands.

ON A PACKET OF SUNMAID RAISINS: - Why not try tossing over your favorite breakfast cereal?

These made me laugh today - especially the Duh Moment ones. I did think of some of the instructions that God has given us though that we totally ignore. We somehow don't think that they apply to us: Loving our neighbors as ourselves, the 10 commandments, the Be attitudes and more. What is your label saying about you today? Have you taken inventory lately to see what you are projecting?

Love

It has certainly been a while since I last blogged. My son HAS GRADUATED from high school! On his prom night he was so sick and ended up in the hospital with heat stroke! No better place he could have been on his prom night! LOL

I have been to Charlottetown PE for a union seminar, been "up west" to visit my Grammy, been to Ottawa (my mom and dad came with me), visited with an old friend and a cousin while there, been to camp for an evening....camps are now over...and still...life goes on! Wow, life certainly happens quickly. I heard a sermon preached once (I think by Bro. Woodward) and he tried to convey about the speed of light and speed of life.....how the older we get the faster it goes! I'm really believing that now....I wonder how Sharon feels about it?....cause she's older than me you know! LOL

We had a beautiful summer day yesterday...the first I think....I took the afternoon off and went to the beach! Vicki, Michaela and Madison came with me and we had a lovely time!

I found this pic...thought you would enjoy....

And this pic! .. Not one among us is Perfect,...and yet, we, each, are Loved!

and....this one....HUH?????

Pic below is from my son's prom night....pics before the walk down!

Random Thoughts

It has been over a month since my last post. My daughter has received her license (stay of the side-walks everyone!)....my son should be graduating next week (HALLELUJAH!) :-) Other things have been happening and decided that are for another time! My mom and dad are in Edmonton visiting Aunt Doris (dad's twin sister) and Uncle Woody (her husband) and Uncle Bob (dad's brother) and Aunt Fran (his wife). Life is good!

Thought I'd just leave you with this thought:

The Mystery of Answered Prayer

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve;
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health, that I might do greater things;
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.
I asked for riches, that I might be happy;
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.
I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men;
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life;
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing I asked for, but everything I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am, among men, most richly blessed.
(this prayer was found folded in the pocket of a Confederate soldier at the end of the Civil War)

On Wednesday

I have not blogged in a while. I had been holding off because there were pictures on my camera that I wanted to download and blog about. Well that never got done...and I can't even remember what the pictures were or what I wanted to blog about! LOL....so I decided today....my memories are going to leave me if I don't blog them soon! After all...I'm getting older...and some of my friends out there in blog land know what that is about....(not naming any names ok Sharon?) LOL

Anyways....on Wednesday evening around 9:00 I decided that I had to go to Aulac to get gas for the van as it was about 9 cents a litre cheaper there than in Nova Scotia AND gas was going up 5 cents a litre at midnight. So I asked Tanya if she wanted to drive...you know...practice and all of that. Considering that I very seldom EVER let anyone else drive....that had to be GOD!

On the way home, just past Frenchy's there was a spot-check road block set up. Of course we stopped and the police man shone his little flashlight in the van and checked us out, and then shone it on our inspection sticker and asked us to pull over! So Tanya turned into the little road beside the roadblock and when the police man came over he asked to see her licence, registration and insurance which we kindly passed over! Then he said....your inspection sticker is a little out-dated. I asked by how much....he said it ran out in December 2008! Then he kindly told Tanya that since she was driving he would have to ticket her because it was her responsibility before driving it to ensure that everything is in order such as registration, insurance and inspection.

Well Tanya laid her beautiful little head right on the steering wheel and started crying. She said..."I'm not having such a good day today. I was supposed to go for my drivers licence and now this." He said...well things usually happens in threes....I think Tanya started crying a little harder then and said...well it's only the second. So then the policeman shines his little light at me and asks who owns the vehicle. I said my husband and I do. He said....if you don't contest the ticket, don't take it to court....I'll actually ticket you instead of Tanya...even though it is a non-moving violation and would not affect her insurance. I said "ok...but couldn't you just let me take the van in tomorrow and have it inspected?" He said "Well ma'am...it's not like it is only 1 month over-due! It is now 5 months over due!" Tanya turned to me and said "Mom, I'll give you back the $20 you gave me for Youth Convention!". I said "That's all right Tanya, don't worry about it!" The nice-policeman then said...."well...I'll tell you what...if you think that you can have the vehicle inspected tomorrow...I'll just give you a warning!" So I promised, he wrote the warning ticket (in Tanya's name!) and we were on our merry way. The ticket could have cost $167.50

Thankfully he didn't give me that ticket....because when I had the vehicle inspected on Thursday, it actually cost me $255 because there was one thing that needed to be fixed! So that inspection could have cost me $422.

You know it was God that Tanya was driving....cause if it would have been me....I'm sure that the police officer wouldn't have had any sympathy! LOL

Easter and Mom's birthday!

So what has happened since the last time I blogged? Not much...really! I lead a very boring life.
Easter has come and gone...I'm going to post a few pics here from Easter Sunday...kids all dressed up in their finery!
My Brookie bear was opposed to getting her pic taken...but she was so beautiful in her pretty pink dress that I wanted to post this picture anyway! I love her! She met me last Sunday in pew....with a great big BEAR hug (She hugs really tight!)...I wish I could spell out how she pronounces my name....something like Kar-nan!

My Newfie - Lincoln didn't want his picture taken either...but he wasn't shy about it like Brookie bear was....he would wait for me to grab my camera and stand there like he was going to pose...then when I would press the button...he would turn quickly away and laugh! I got this one picture of him...when he wasn't thinking quickly enough! I am calling him my newfie-Lincoln because I was in Newfoundland when his mommie went into labour! I caught a flight home and made it to the hospital and into the room about 2 minutes before he was born! I think I drove about 140 from the Springhill Exit to the Amherst hospital after James called and told me Lincoln was coming soon! I'm so glad he waited for me then! LOL Isn't his Easter outfit beautiful?

My Madison is absolutely beautiful! She is the light of my life! I have loved her since before she was born and I know that God has good things in store for her! This was just another quickie picture...I'm going to get better pictures of them in their outfits soon!
And then of course, the parents of these three beautiful children! Krystle has been in my life since her pre-teen years and spent a lot of time at my house in her teen years. She and James have been together for quite a few years and I am so proud of them. They have figured out that things work well if you are working together toward the same outcome! I am so proud of their parenting skills and actually a bit jealous that I didn't know some of things that they do! I'm proud of you Krystle and James!
In church on Easter, my friend Naomi was sitting with me. Her little man - Luke was giving me the eye! He is going to be a little heartbreaker when he grows up! He is so cute!
Her other son (Joel) was being his usual active and happy self....this pic is of him trying to crawl under the pews.....so he is actually laying down and I am snapping his picture from above! Doesn't he have the most beautiful blue eyes? I wasn't able to get a good picture of Hannah (Joel and Luke's sister) because she was sitting up front with the other kids....but I will soon!
My mom also celebrated her birthday on April 15th! We went to visit Aunt Susan and Uncle Randy on the Friday before Easter and they surprised her with a birthday cake! Doesn't she look good for being 67? The bakery next door to A. Susan and U. Randy's house makes the best rolls....we knew that....now we know that they also make the best cakes! It was delicious!
Ok...enough for now....my Manumanum is speaking tonight at church! Come one come all! She's the best! (I know ....you'll get me for this!)

CUBA - in all it's glory

Ok...so I promised more on my trip to CUBA....here it is. (Enjoy the pics too!)

We arrived at the Varadero airport to approximately 30 degree weather. The humidy was relatively high and we knew we were in for a beautiful vacation! We stood in a line up waiting to be processed. Mitzi went through the metal door first and then Tanya. We wanted to be sure that Tanya would not be left on either side of the door by herself if something happened that she was not or I was not let through. That was a treat!

We were met on the other side of the green doors by Air Transat employees with signs...they let us know what our bus number was....as we left the airport to head to our bus...we were greeted by the sight of many "old" cars! All the cars were in mint condition and dated back to the 1950's! Beautiful...it was like stepping back into time!

As we waited on the bus for the all the vacationers....Tanya mentioned to me that she had seen someone she thought she knew.....she wasn't sure who it was but recognized their face. (more on this later!) One group got on and a woman started taking pics of everyone on the bus. We knew from her "loudness" that we hadn't heard the last from her on this trip....she had already started drinking and was well on her way to being the life of the party! LOL (suffice it to say that by the following Monday...she was much more meek and mild and hardly a sound on the return trip! LOL)

The drive from the airport to the resort took approximately 30 minutes and I got the bright idea that when we arrived at the resort, I would immediately get into line to check in and Mitzi and Tanya would get the bags from the bus. I was around the 3rd or 4th in line and it still took almost 15 minutes of waiting...just to be told that our room was not available yet! The first thing we did after being told this was to change into our swimwear and cover-ups. We headed to the dining room and had a lite lunch and then out to the pool where we basked in the beautiful sunshine for 2 or 3 hours until our room was ready.

The room number was 1106 and left a little to be desired in decor. The color on the walls was somewhere between puke green and aqua blue and the accessories were yellow and orange! Oh well.....as you will come to find out....Mitzi and I weren't there for the room but for the sun. Tanya on the other hand spent $800 to watch the Final Fours (basket ball) on tv in the room and the other $84 for the sun! LOL

So the first couple of days we spent by the pool! It was a whopping 30+ degrees out and very beautiful....we had to spend a lot of the time in the shade! Poor us! Then we proceeded to the beach which was across the street (about a 4 minute walk from the resort). The beautiful white sand and the green water made it seem like you were in a pool! We also spent as much time in the shade there as we could!

It was amazing to see the vendors. They had their wares all set up on a bike that was "housed" in. The two guys that stayed with the cart would wheel the bike up the beach and "park" it by pulling stakes and propping the bike up. And I must say that I like the vendors in Cuba much better than the ones in the Dominican because they are not a bit pushy. Cuban vendors allow you to approach them. You are the one that asks how much something is and the price that you are given is VERY reasonable and you don't have to barter. Dominican vendors are very "in your face" and always give a price that is very "laughable" as it is so far fetched. Like $30 for something you wouldn't pay $5 for. Even with bartering in the Dominican, I still feel like you overpay for everything. The sad thing about the vendors in Cuba (at least the ones on the beach)....they do not own the cart. The government takes the first 45% and the owners take the next 45%. The remaining 10% is split betweent the two vendors.

One day Mitzi, Tanya and I took a little walk up the Varadero strip and went to a little park that had been recommended to us. There were vendors set up in this park and Mitzi picked up a lovely straw purse for only a few pesos! There were locals offereing camel rides (we refused...thanks anyway!)...the camels looked like they would splinter they were so thin! There were roosters roaming free.....a beautiful parrot...a mini "colorful" train to ride around the park....Swans in the lake etc. There was also a "cafe" that made the best Pina Colodas EVER! I had a virgin one. It was very thick, coconuty and just a 'beautiful' thing! I think I got over charged...cause Mitzi gave a 5 peso and got change and I gave a 10 peso and only got 4 pesos back. But....it was worth it! LOL

Another afternoon, Mitzi and I were taking a break in the lobby from all the hard work of sun-tanning (it is very tiring you know!). A lady came up to us and asked if we would like to use her bus passes for the Varadero Tourist bus. This bus is a double decker bus and you pay 5 pesos for the day. You can get on and off as many times as you wish all day long. The bus runs from 9 am to 9 pm. Mitzi and I had been planning to do this anyway...but this was like a gift! We accepted the passes and checked with Tanya to see if she was interested (she wasn't...cause the final four was on!). We then walked up to the Varadero strip and waited at the bus stop for the double decker. We got on and 'did the tour'. It took approximately 2 hours to do the whole strip. We stayed on the bus and didn't get off. There was a lady at the front of the bus that was announcing the stops in 3 or 4 different languages (I think she did german, french, english and spanish). At one particular stop, she didn't make an announcement....but the bus stopped, the bus driver got on the p.a. and said 10 minute break!.....so Mitzi and I thought he just had to go pee or something...because he left the bus....there was a security guard standing by a tree, an 'fake' old fashioned car in the front yard a sign that said "casa de Al" (or something like that)....We had no idea where we were! (more on this later too!). The last half of the tour was very boring..because it was out in the boon-docks...where there were not a lot of sites to be seen...just the higher end resorts. We did see the Americana Mall....maybe next trip we'll go there! LOL. When we finally returned to the bus stop where we had go on originally, Mitzi and I got off and started the little trek back to the resort. We got a little side-tracked by a restaurant and stopped in for supper! May I say that it was probably one of the best meals all week! We both got steak in different dishes...mine was VERY, VERY tasty even though it was a little rarer than I would have liked in a foreign country LOL....it wasn't mooing....and the cow had eaten very good grass...because there was lots of flavour and I didn't get sick!

The next day, all three of us headed out and paid our 5 pesos and got on the double decker bus again. When we got to the "casa de Al" the announcer advised that we were taking a 5 minute break this time...and we were at AL CAPONE's house! WOW! The view from the back of the house was spectacular. It was right on the beach! The car out front was a replica of the mobster's car.....oh yeah...and the reason for the security guard was because of the historical significance!
CASA de Al - front and back views

When we got back on the bus, we travelled back to the "biggest flea market in Varadero". We went SHOPPING! I know that this will surprise anyone who knows me...but I had a great time shopping! I actually enjoyed it! LOL The prices were reasonable and I found a few good deals....and I will definitely go back again! LOL

With the exception of these two mini-excursions....our time was spent by the pool or on the beach. Tanya did go snorkeling one afternoon for 15 pesos. She loved the snorkeling part but was a littled put out (sick) of the Hobie Cat boat ride to get there.....15 - 20 minutes each way. For that very reason, she didn't go again!
We didn't get to see a lot of the culture because we were in the "tourist" trap of a resort area.....which was kind of ok with me because I was on vacation and didn't want to have to think of unfortunate circumstances a whole lot. We did have a lady approach us asking for stuff....but we didn't provide. There was one man that sleeps in front of the post office every night on a blow-up pool mattress. He had two puppies with him. He did not approach us so Mitzi approached him and gave him some pesos. We also both gave leftover hamburg to the puppies which they licked and chowed down very quickly.

The Cuban people that waited on us were very nice and we did a lot more tipping in Cuba than we had done in Dominican. I would say that I probably doubled or tripled my tip giving. There was live entertainment during the evening buffets and during the evening in the lobby. I only went to one of the 'entertainments' at the enterntainment section of the resort...it wasn't that great...it was a fashion??? show. Mitzi and I were pleasantly surprised by the musical entertainment and enjoyed it very much.....all very Cuban music. One afternoon by the pool there was an 'impromptu' party that was fun to watch and which the other resort people seemed to enjoy very much......LOL!

My biggest WOW in Cuba was all the different types of transportation that shared the road and shared it quite well I might add. A brochure notes that it is every man for himself on the Cuban roads....but that there are very few serious accidents....a few fender benders....but few serious accidents. While travelling the Varadero strip we saw Horse and carriages, bicycles, scooters, tri-scooter taxis, regular taxis, lots and lots of old-fashioned cars and buses, buses, buses...from newer coach type buses to double deckers to old ratty trappy buses. While on the double decker bus, I looked down and there was a bicycle driving up the centre of the road beside our bus! I might note that there was no horse poop on the roads that I ever saw....and only on the way back to the airport did I even see one petrol station. It had two pumps (the old fashioned kind)...and didn't look very busy! WOW!

The food was ok at our resort. The first couple of days we were saying that the food was good....but by the end of the week we were very sick of it! It seemed that they served the same food all week long. A lot of fish and pork,a bit of beef, a bit of rabbit and a bit of chicken. Potatoes, french fries (which I thought were re-cooked and didn't like at all!), vegetables (which were pretty good) lots of grated cabbage (white and red), grated carrots, tomatoes (which had no taste), sliced carrots....but no good salad dressing!.... I had a problem with the smell in the dining room ....and by the 5th day.....it almost made me nauseous to walk in. There was a Pizza place that we could go...served pizza on a flat bread....with a tomato soup tasting sauce...that was ok and we ate there a couple of times. I will say that the bread that was served on the resort was excellent, the fruit was good and the ice-cream was to die for....ask Tanya...she lived on the ice-cream! (especially chocolate!). The Chinese a-la-carte was pretty good. The Curry chicken was excellent, the sweet and sour pork was very good as was the mandarin chicken. The Cuban a-la-carte left a little to be desired and we ended up at the buffet leaving our meals there mostly un-eaten. After all that complaining though.....please note that I did not lose or gain weight while I was away! It was funny though....on the return flight, they served a container of food (President's Choice - noodles and beef with ginger and garlic). We were sitting near the front of the plane and the stewards started serving from the back (we were on an air-bus....so fairly big plane). The scent of the heated dinners wafted up to the front and I swear that by the time they got to me...there was a huge puddle of drool on the floor beside me! When I opened my container...I just drank in the smells...then I put a fork full in my mouth and savoured it! It had so much flavor....I didn't even want to swallow....just wanted to keep it in my mouth! LOL

Now...back to the guy Tanya thought she knew.......When Tanya pointed him out to me, I also thought he looked familiar, however it wasn't until we got to the resort and someone called out his name that I clued in to who he was. It was my sister-in-law's nephew. I recognized him from his grad pic that she keeps on her fridge. I saw him a couple of times at the resort but didn't say anything to him...however, when we went back to the airport in Cuba on departure day, I spoke to him and told him that we knew him and how. He was very surprised and his girlfriend said...that she wished we had met up on the resort. Someone here at home asked me why I didn't say anything to them at the resort and this is my response.... I wanted him to have a good vacation and not have to go home with the thoughts of me in a bathing suit! If he didn't know who I was ...then I wouldn't stand out in the crowd....but if he knew...then he would have been saying hello ...etc....Wasn't that nice of me....not to give them nightmares! LOL

We also met up with a couple at the resort. Their daughter had been on Tanya's basketball team last year. That was weird! Then...there was another man that was from Amherst....a Gould! He was having a good time! LOL....dancing on the bars etc. It was a funny site and we laughed so hard! What are the chances though that you end up at a resort with someone you know when you're not planning it. Last year in the Domincan...there was a nurse from the Amherst hospital on the same resort......we just steered clear! LOL

Well...anyway...that was our time in Cuba.....we enjoyed it...but it was nice to be home....however, given the snow all weekend...I believe that we would much rather be back in the heat of CUBA!

Back from Cuba!

Well...the adventure has come and gone! Let me tell you a little about my experience!

We (Tanya and I) arrived at the airport at approximately 5 a.m. on Monday morning and proceeded to wait in line to check in. There were a lot of people at the airport at that time! WoW....doesn't anyone sleep now-a-days? Because I didn't have our e-tickets...I was sent to another counter for them. The girl at that counter told me that the check in counter would be closing in 15 minutes. Not a big deal right? WRONG...because Mitzi hadn't arrived at the airport yet! I asked the girl if I could check Mitzi in. She said...NO...Mitzi has to be here to check in in person. So...Tanya and I proceeded to wait for Mitzi....approximately 10 minutes went by and I went up to the desk to plead with the girl to let me check Mitzi in. As I did this...another lady came to me and said that the girl who had given me the first bit of information was incorrect....the check-in counter would actually be closing in 45 minutes.....however, because the airport was so busy...Tanya and I should proceed through Security. I wanted to wait for Mitzi....but she said it would be best if we didn't.....she did promise me that she would let Mitzi know we had gone through Security. Depart Tanya and Carolyn to go through Security.

Enter Mitzi through the swinging doors!....and Mitzi waits and waits and waits for Tanya and Carolyn to arrive....not knowing that they have arrived. Finally Mitzi goes to the counter and says....I'm looking for my friends can you tell me if they have checked in yet? The lady says....Oh...are you Mitzi? "yes".......Well your friends have gone through Security....!!!!!!!!!!!! So Mitzi checks in, goes through security and finds me waiting anxiously at the top of the stairs for her....we wait for Tanya to get through the line-up at Tim Hortons (she has already been in this line up for 20 minutes!)...and then we head to our gate!

Our plane is on time and we proceed through boarding. Unfortunately, our seats are not together and we seperate for the four hour flight. The flight is un-eventful...we get to watch the Twilight movie, eat a breakfast sandwich of some kind and snooze for a bit. When we finally touch down in Cuba.....everyone applauds.....and the fun begins!

Tell you more on the next blog! Love Carolyn

2 1/2 more sleeps!

There are a little over 2 sleeps left until I leave for CUBA.....but for those of you who are offended, jealous etc., just wanted to let you know that I am not excited about it and I won't rub it in!

....And....I have some ocean front property in Arizona to sell if you are interested!

I'm positive....it's gonna be a great time!

Excitement filled the air

As the countdown to CUBA continues (3 1/4 more sleeps!), I find myself excited about every little task! Let's do this, let's do that....it whiles away the time! I have started to pack my suitcase, however, I am on a fishing expedition for a bigger one...cause I can't fit everything in that I want to take! LOL. Rachel has offered to lend me hers, however, I have to check out how much it weighs because if I can't fit all my stuff in and still be under the 44 lbs....that's no good either! I may have to beg, borrow or steal room in Tanya and Mitzi's suitcases! LOL...they are not clutterbugs like I!

This week the church is encouraging a week of "no negative talk"....so here I go....Think Positive!

I'm positive that on Monday we leave for a week (heading to Cuba)! A manager in my building just came back from the same resort that we are going to. He said the beach was awesome, the rooms were ok, the pools were great and the food SUCKED! So, I'm positive,.......great diet start! :-)....and I'm positive that I'll come back looking like a lobster and feeling great about it! I'm positive that I'm going to enjoy the sunshine and the beach and the great company! I'm positive that when I come back there will still be snow on the ground to greet me and cool me off!

Isn't life great being positive? LOL

24 more sleeps!

24 more sleeps to Cuba all! :-) Cannot wait! I'm so excited....went to the dollar store yesterday and bought MORE things! Hope I have room in my suitcase for my stuff! Bought Tanya a new suitcase too because she broke the handle on her old one on the way home from the Dominican last year!

Last night went to Mark and Mel's for supper! I was having Mel withdrawal because she was gone for a week or so...and then we just hadn't connected since she got back. Mark made some "greek" food and I rolled away from the table about 10 bites too late! LOL. Then he made dessert too! He used Naan bread, Tsatsiki (sp?), greek salad with feta and Pork slovaki (sp?).....it was very messy to eat...but it tasted so good. Mark and I are in agreement that the messiest food to eat is always the best food! Then he made bananas in rum flavoured sauce over ice cream (after he tried to blow up the bananas with a torch! LOL) It was awesome!

Mel and I then went to Superstore and terrorized Phyllis for rain checks! She was only allowed to give us each a raincheck for 6 of the item that we wanted (and we had wanted many more)....Tanya stood up (she had been leaning on the counter), put her hand on her hip and said "I want a raincheck for 6 too!" It was too funny!

Another funny thing that happened yesterday. For the last week or so, on my whiteboard outside my office, I had written the saying "You can think positive or negative and it doesn't cost any more to think positive". Yesterday, I changed the whiteboard to read the following..."I'm positive... Cuba in 25 more sleeps!" A co-worker friend of mine went by and then stopped abruptly and came back to my whiteboard. She started laughing! When I asked her what she was laughing about she advised that when she was going by...all she read was "I'm positive" and she thought that I was pregnant! LOL THIS IS NOT A GOOD THOUGHT folks!

My Manumuman fell yesterday on the ice (on her way to her garage). She said..."one minute she was walking and the next she was laying on her back looking at the heavens". Today she tells me that her left wing is hurting. I told her to think positive....at least it's not her eating wing! LOL ....Hope you're feeling better Manumanum!

Thursday, March 5, 2009

Manumanum and I went to Moncton last night. We hit Frenchy's first. I was able to pick up 5 skirts and a top for kids I know. I told Manumanum as we were heading to the cash that there was something wrong with that picture...I don't have any kids between the sizes of 7 and 10...yet everything I bought was that size!

We then went to the Dollarama where I purchased some items to take for gifts when I go to Cuba! It was so much fun and I didn't stop at 14 gifts....so I'm officially over the limit and taking my gifts, Tanya's gifts and Mitzi's! I'll make them pay the peso gifts! LOL

Then Manumanum and I endured the hardship of waiting in line at East Side Marios for 10 or 15 minutes.....We sat down to our meal of 1/4 chicken dinners (hers with pasta and mine with mario potatoes) Of course...we had all you can eat ceaser and garlic bread as well. We rolled out of there and headed to Penningtons! They had a wonderful sale on. All their clearance stuff was 70% off the lowest ticketed price....then they had a scratch card....and we got another 30% off.....So...You would think that we would have gotten it for free! But we didn't! LOL

Well...have to run for now....only 25 more sleeps to CUBA!

Ready to be Committed!

I am so excited about Cuba I can barely breath! I found the elusive luggage tags from Mitzi...they were with all the stuff I have ready for Cuba...imagine that...they were exactly where they should have been! I guess I'm more organized than I realize. Tanya would tell you different and I'm beginning to believe her...but don't tell her that because I hate when she nags me...and she has been doing quite a bit of that lately...it makes her very irratating to live with!

We had a "kinda" "bit" of excitement/expectation....Pamela said that she wanted to come with us...but then she changed her mind...so it is still just the three of us going. I'm happy with that though because we had a blast last time with just the three of us. I'm hearing that a lot of people are going to Cuba in the same number of sleeps that I am ....hopefully they won't be at the same resort....because what happens in Cuba stays in Cuba...right Mitzi? LOL PS....I wonder what the poor people will be doing then?

I still have to go to the dollar store and pick up mine and Tanya's gifts for housekeeping. I have 3 or 4 things already...but I intend to take quite a few things....so off I go shopping....the hardship of it all! LOL

We were without power from around 11 p.m. on Monday evening until about 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. My parents from about 9:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. imagine that! Even my siberian husky wanted to spend the day in the warm bed! I don't like the cold!

Got good news on Tanner - his tumour is "fatty" tissue and will not be removed until such time as it starts to bother him. I have news for him...I'm putting him on a no-fat diet...he can only have lettuce, tomato and cucumber....no more porkchops in coke sauce and potato scallop for him! LOL

Grant has to have hernia surgery...overnight at the hospital and then 1 month off work.....How do you manage that! LOL

Well.....off to the races....have a good day!

I'm committed!

We finally have our tickets booked for Cuba! This will be the first trip to Cuba for all three of us (Mitzi, Tanya and myself!) Does anyone have any hints, ideas or experiences they want to share with us on their trips to CUBA? I'm so excited I can barely breathe! LOL

Uncle Randy and Aunt Susan have finally made it to Canada! They have unpacked the trucks and placed everything in their house and are now on their way back to the US....we couldn't keep them very long could we? Actually...they are just returning the truck back to Bangor and then coming "home" again!

Got a good report yesterday on Emmalee. God is good. So far reports have come in normal and she went back to school for the first time in three weeks!

Tanner has an appointment with the surgeon to see about his Tumor on March 3. (Incidently...I'll be in Cape Breton that day!)

Selena is 'back to normal'...or as normal as she can be with an Aunt like me! (I'm a poet and didnt' know it! LOL!)

Oh yes....and I finally got my retro cheque....and it's all gone! Woe is me....When does my Income Tax come in? LOL...then maybe I'll go shopping Rachel! :-)

Tomorrow we leave for Saint John and the Cherish Conference...have to spend Friday and Saturday with a bunch of girls! HELP! I'm ready to slap them all ready! LOL

Tanya has her provincial tournament this weekend! They will be in Wolfville. Here's wishing them all games that they win by at least 10 points! :-)

Please keep Bro. Gordie Lewis in your prayers as well as Sis. Della Lewis. He has been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma cancer.

Have a great day all! Talk to you again soon....OH YEAH......and can anyone tell me where I put the luggage tags that Mitzi gave me for Christmas? I can't find them anywhere....and I need them for my trip to Cuba! I'm hoping I didn't throw them out with my gift bag.....

valentines day

Just recently I read someone's blog (I think it was a newspaper columnist). His opinion is that valentines day is a farce. If you can't show your love all year...there's no sense in showing it on one day set aside. I have come to the conclusion that probably holds some truth to it....and then...why bother showing it on valentines day either???? Huh...???? Sorry...Just venting....I have the right to!

It will be a busy week!

This week has started out as a busy week....with concerns...so..I'm gonna share...cause who knows if I'll get another chance this week to blog.

So yesterday, I found out that my nephew, Tanner has a tumor on his left side. He has to see a surgeon. Pray with us for him. I love the little guy. He is 10 and very special to me! Last night they took my neice, Selena, to Out-Patients. She has been throwing up since Saturday morning. The doctor ran some tests and couldn't figure out what was wrong so they sent her to the Summerside hospital to see the Pediatrician. Pray with us for her. Selena is 7 and pretty cute too.....she looks like me! LOL

Tanya had a Regional Game in Alma last night at the Northumberland Regional High School. They won. They score was like 44 to 21. She has another game tonight here at ARHS and then on the weekend in East Hants. Monday night again, they play the same team as last night. Pam came with us to the game last night. I was glad that she came. I enjoy visiting with Pam.

Well...have to run...it is Security Week at work...I'm trying to keep my desk clean! LOL

Have a great week!

3rd blog today! My sign outside my cubicle

I've posted a quote on my whiteboard outside my cubicle....I have had quite a few people stop and read and laugh at it...or give a thumbs up....but It's my story and I'm sticking to it! Here it is!

We all get heavier as we get older because there is a lot more information in our heads...

SO

I'm not fat, I'm just really intelligent and my head couldn't hold anymore..so it started filling up the rest of me!

2nd post today! 10 things I love that start with C

1. I love my Children! I have two of the best children in the world....I know that may be debatable...but I'll win....because I have a bigger mouth than anyone I know...and besides that...I'm just bigger!

2. I love my Cousins! I have some very special cousins that have meant a lot to me through the years and have placed their "footprint" on my life. I honor them!

3. I love Chips! plain, bbq corn chips, s&v, mesquite bbq and sea salt and pepper are my favorites

4. I love Chocolate! Need I say more?

5. I love Cheesecake! Real, "baked in the oven" cheesecake...doesn't even have to be flavored...but I love Sherri Hawkes' pumpkin cheesecake!

6. I love Cheesy jokes! The cheesier the better! LOl

7. I love my Choir...but I'm not that crazy about Choir songs....amazing huh?

8. I love my "Cherubic" friends....Ok...I had to get friends in there somewhere....Cherubic...may be a questionable word...but I still love my friends.....I love friends...who (as Mel describes it) are not High Maintenance! I love my friends who know the song in my heart and can sing it back to me when I have forgotten the words....I love my friends who pray for me and know when I need them or when I need time alone. I love my friends who know when something is wrong...or when everything is right without me telling them. I love friends who expect nothing in return except friendship. I love my Cherubic Friends....Friends like that are "Angel-like" don't you think?

9. I love my Country. I think that it is heading in the wrong direction with regards to God, and that it requires a lot of prayer...but it is still my home and native land.

10. I love Car trips! (and Car trips with my Cherubic friends!)....because I love to shop........you knew that I had to get that in there somewhere too....didn't you!

Forgiveness

I came across this cute story and had to share!
The story is told of a little boy shopping with his mom at the mall. He did well for the first few minutes but soon grew tired of following his mother into stores that were of no interest to him at all. He began to whine and cry, hoping that she would take him home. When that didn't work, he threw a tantrum, complete with screaming, yelling and a mad dash for the nearest exit. It worked! Stuffing a crumpled shopping list into her purse, the little boy's mother grabbed his hand and headed for the parking lot. He was thrilled, anticipating the freedom so close at hand. But as they drove home in tense silence, the realization that he was in serious trouble began to settle around his anxious heart and mind. In an attempt to placate his mother the little boy asked, "Mom, when you do something wrong it's a sin - right?" A stiff nod was his answer. "Mom, my teacher at church said that God loves us even when we do wrong things. That's right isn't it?" With an angry glance, his mother answered, "Yes, son. That is right." He was onto something here -- she spoke! "Mom, my teacher says that when we say we are sorry for the wrong things we do and ask God to forgive us, He takes those wrong things and throws them into the sea. Isn't that neat, Mom?" Through slightly clenched teeth came the answer, "Yes, son. God does love us and forgives us for every wrong thing we do." Several silent moments passed and with a sigh, the little boy surrendered. "Mom, I told God I am sorry for the way I acted at the mall and asked Him to throw those wrong things into the deepest ocean He could find. But I have a feeling that when we get home, you're gonna go fishing in that ocean!"

And by the way...for those of you who are watching for what God is doing....isn't he doing a great job???????? :-)

Winter - I think NOT!

Anyone who knows me is aware that I am cold all the time and I HATE WINTER! The reason that I hate winter has to do with the fact that I am cold all the time and winter is a COLD time! I don't play outside in the cold. I don't sled, ski, ski-doo, skate, walk or anything else that remotely sounds like it could be a sport outside. I run from my house to my vehicle (hopefully it is warmed up), run from my vehicle into the shopping mall or into the church or into work....but that is the limit of my excercise in the winter! Also, in the winter I get sick A LOT (that was for you Manumanum!) :-)! I was sick with the flu on Monday (hence the reason no blog), then yesterday morning I woke up feeling fine...but by noon I was sniffling, had itchy, tired eyes and now I'm sneezing, coughing, feeling like the flu is back and I want to be home in my bed! Oh well, life goes on! and so it does!

I'm really excited that U. Randy and A. Susan are moving back to the Atlantic! I can hardly wait for them to get here!

I want to know how come I'm as poor as a church mouse? I got paid on Wednesday and Wednesday night I had hardly any of my pay left! And today...even less....and for those of you who are wondering...I'm not even eating lunch at Subway! I've been bringing my lunch to work! I really need to get a job! or at least less bills...cause I have a really good job now!

Oh yeah...and God is doing great things...I'm not going to say what it is....because I want it to work out the way that HE wants it too....you'll just have to watch and see!

Oh..and if any of my blog reading friends like to read....I borrowed the book "Marley and Me" from the Library (it may sound familiar to you because it is also a movie that came out at Christmas time!)....the book was laugh out loud funny and bawl out loud sad...and I recommend it to anyone.....(I cried like a baby!)

That is my random thoughts for today...sorry I was late.......Have a wonderful weekend!

Life is a blur!

Last week is a blur! I can't think of anything of significance that I accomplished. With the exception of attending Grampy Allen's funeral on Sunday and representing a fellow employee at a grievance hearing on Friday....life pretty much ...just happened last week! And for those that are wondering....if you thought outside was cold on Sunday....You should have been inside!

Have a great week!

Whose hands are you IN?

A basketball in my hands is worth about $19.
A basketball in Michael Jordan's hands is worth about $33 million.
It depends whose hands it's in.

A baseball in my hands is worth about $6.
A baseball in Roger Clemens' hands is worth $475 million.
It depends on whose hands it's in.

A tennis racket is useless in my hands.
A tennis racket in Andre Agassi's hands is worth millions.
It depends whose hands it's in.

A rod in my hands will keep away an angry dog.
A rod in Moses' hands will part the mighty sea.
It depends whose hands it's in.

A slingshot in my hands is a kid's toy.
A slingshot in David's hand is a mighty weapon.
It depends whose hands it's in.

Two fish and 5 loaves of bread in my hands is a couple of fish sandwiches.
Two fish and 5 loaves of bread in Jesus' hands will feed thousands.
It depends whose hands it's in.

Nails in my hands might produce a birdhouse.
Nails in Jesus Christ's hands will Produce salvation for the entire world.
It depends whose hands it's in.

So put your concerns, your worries, your fears, your hopes, your dreams, your families and your relationships in God's hands because... It depends whose hands it's in.

Here we go again!

Has it really been a full week since I have blogged? My goodness time is going fast. I think the older you get...the faster time goes....but I'll have to ask my sister-in-law (Sharon) to be sure...cause she is older than I! LOL (don't anyone tell...but she will be 40 this year!)

Last week was very busy. I didn't go to work last Monday as I wasn't feeling the best. Monday evening was Ladies Committee meeting, Tuesday evening was church, Wednesday was...well...supper out with Manumanum and Naomi, Thursday was Thursday! :-) and on Friday and Saturday I was on the Island for Tanya's basketball tournament.

In the middle of all of this, Phillip's paternal grandfather was very low. He went into the hospital on Monday evening and was put on the ventilator early Tuesday morning. On Thursday around noon the decision was made to remove him from the ventilator. Within 10 minutes Grampy was sitting up and talking to everyone in his room! The Doctor stood in the doorway with his hands on his hips and laughing. He told the family that twice before he has pronounced Grampy dead and both times within a week or so Grampy was on his tractor....so it is up to God! Grampy Allen is 94 years old and very strong willed. We do know that he has cancer in his lungs and only has one lung working and only at 10% now because of the pneumonia. However, God is good and allowed the family all the chance to say goodbye. Phillip and I were in on Friday morning to ICU to see him and Phillip fed him breakfast! He chatted with us and when I went to kiss him on the cheek, he turned his face and kissed me on the mouth! I told him that I would see him later and he said...in the by and by. Grampy wants to go home and he is ready to go...so ...God's timing is best! He is out of ICU and in a regular room now. When we dropped by early this morning he was sleeping soundly.

Tanya's basketball tournament was in Kensington, PEI. Their first game was on Friday evening and they lost by 1 point! Tanya played very well! After I took her to the hotel where the team was staying, I drove up west to my brothers' home and spent the night there. On Saturday morning before heading back down to Kensington for the remaining games, I stopped in to see my grandmother. My grandmother has not known me for about 1-1/2 years now. I miss talking with her very much. When I walked into the nursing home and she spotted me, her face lit up! She said..."Oh, I've been looking for you! I've missed you!". I really think that Alzeimers patients have moments of clarity! She was quite chatty and during our "coversation" she said to me..."I wish Susan were here!" (Susan is her youngest daughter!). I asked her..."What would you do if Susan were here?" She answered me with a big smile, knowing that she was making a joke..."I'd throw her away!".......Further into our visit Grammy asked me where Daisy was. I told her that I didn't know. Later she asked me..."Where is she?"...I asked her "Where is Sandra?" and she answered...."That was my question...that is what I asked you!" (Sandra is her other daughter - my mother). I told my grandmother that I love her and she answered "I love you too! I always have!" Just before I left, Grammy looked at me at said..."I remember you when you're gone!"..... I love my Grammy! She is special to me!

Tanya's first game on Saturday was a huge loss! I can't remember...but they lost by 20 or 30 points! They played the next game back to back...with only a 20 minute break. This final game was also a loss...but they only lost by 7 points. The score was 51 - 44....Tanya got about 14 or 16 of the 44 points! The Island teams were Senior teams...so I think they did very well!

Sunday was "prison day". After church on Sunday morning, a group of us went to the Springhill prison for another service. It was very good with quite a few men in attendance. The presence of God was very real and Manumanum was very annointed by God as she presented what God had given to her for those in attendance!

And today is the start of another week! I'll talk to you more this week...hopefully! Have a great one!

The song in my heart

It is amazing how God will use a song to speak to a heart. My manumanum and I use the saying "A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words". Sunday was such a day.

When I am asked to sing, usually a song will pop into my head within moments of being asked and I usually find that the song is exactly the song that God has intended to be used for that service. Sometimes, being human, and going through things, sometimes the song is even meant for me and sometimes I fight the song.

I remember one particular instance when I was asked to sing and a certain song came into my head. I knew the song, knew that it was meant for me and refused to sing it. After all, maybe it was my "carnal" nature that was "picking" the song. I decided that I would sing another song...just as nice...but not what God wanted. I asked my sister-in-law if she would help me with the song because she usually sings it with me. I photocopied the song and had it ready for my brother-in-law to use when he played. I was getting away with it...I thought. But God knew and he was refusing to let me have my way. Just before I went up to sing, my father turned around to me and asked me if I was singing...I said yes and then he asked me to sing "that" song. I knew then that there was no running from God. I sang it, humble and broken.

I was asked to sing last night earlier in the day. No song really "came" to me. There was a new one that I wanted to try...but that didn't work out. After choir practice...I stayed at the keyboard and went through my two song books...nothing still. I went into the prayer room and before I left, I turned to Manumanum and said....I have to sing tonight and I don't have a song on my heart.

Went back to my seat and Manumanum sat with me. I opened my book and picked out a couple of songs and then showed them both to her during the song service..and said..."OK...which one?" Later she would tell me that there was an audible voice in her ear that said..."tell her that one"!.... When I got up to sing, I made it through the song and inside myself...I wanted to sing the first verse again...it was the least difficult...but when my fingers went up...it was #2 verse that I picked. The verse went like this.... "Oft times satan will whisper that there's no use to try. For there's no end to sorrow, there's no hope in the by-and by. But I know Jesus is with me and tomorrow I will rise, where the storms never darken the sky."

That verse was meant for me. The song was meant for me. The storms have been blinding and difficult. Feelings of giving up and "it doesn't matter anymore" have prevailed. But it is time to realize that the storms are only for a season and someday the Storms will never darken the sky.

My manumanum says that God knew the song of my heart and told her to remind me! Thanks Manumanum for being used of God!

Babysitting

Tanya (my daughter) wanted to go skiing....so Krystle said that she would go with her if I would keep her kids.

Krystle is a young lady who I met 19 years ago when she was only 8 or 9. During her teen years, she spent a lot of time at my home, not only babysitting my children, but just to get away from home which all teens do! She has grown into a beautiful young woman who is married (I was her maid of honor at her wedding) and she has a husband who thinks the sun rises and sets on her as well as having 3 beautiful children who are my Godchildren.

I agreed to babysit, thinking I would have all three children, however, Madison decided to spend the day with Aunt Jackie at hockey games...so I am with the two younger children. Brookie and Lincoln are joys to look after! They are currently amusing themselves, sitting on the floor, with the rug over their legs...patting it and singing! I don't remember my kids being this cute! LOL....maybe that is why they say to have grandchildren first...you are much more relaxed!

We have just finished supper, got the dishes washed and put away, had a treat and now...play time until bed time! Isn't life great! :-)

Oh yeah...and my manumanum took my mom and dad out for supper and didn't take me.....! But I'm not insulted! YET! :-)

Old Woman

I want to know when I became an old woman? I can't do anything right in my kids minds (especially my daughters), I can't dress right, speak right, discipline right, parent right, ....I can't do anything right....and when did I become a person that wouldn't go to the mall because I had no money? When has that ever stopped me? HUH?

A Whole Person!

This may sound a little funny...but today, I feel like a whole person again! And the difference in today you ask? Well, I got up this morning, got ready for work and went out to the yard and got in MY VAN! See for the past week and a half or so, my van has been utilized by missionaries (:-)

I have used my Dad's car, my father-in-law's truck, been offered Manumanums Car. Have used my hoofs (WOW...didn't know I was an animal did you?)...and that is all well and good and honestly, I didn't mind not having my vehicle.....but I didn't realize how much I had missed it until I went out this morning and got in it and felt whole again! LOL And really, without my vehicle, I had a really quiet time over Christmas because I was limited to what I could do...so it was very restful. I will honestly say that the only thing that I didn't do, over Christmas, that I wanted to was visit a couple of people (sorry Wendy and Marie!)...that's what happens when you don't have a vehicle that is all your own! LOL

It is also amazing how the phrase "out of sight, out of mind" applied in this situation as well. When returning my father-in-law's truck to him yesterday, I asked my dad to meet me with the van. When I arrived to the street that my in-laws (or out-laws! :-) live on, I realized that my dad had been driving in front of me the whole time, in MY VAN, and I hadn't noticed! LOL

So today, I am a whole woman again! Watch out world!
